Can People Buy Phone Records And Get Your Personal
Information?
We like to think that when we pick up our home phone
or cell phone while we are out that our conversations are
private. The thought does not occur to most of us when we
go to make or receive a call that other people could end up
finding out who we have been talking to. Even if you have
nothing to hide, it would be nice to know that people would not
be able to access this sort of personal information.
These days, in just a matter of minutes and with less than one
hundred dollars to boot, anyone can find out who you have been
talking to.
How do people go about this you ask? For people
who are just now learning about this worldwide problem, it is quite surprising
how the whole thing is set up. Basically telephone
companies are only able to offer information to the actual
account holder, but they are not always able to determine
whether they are talking to that person or not. As
long as a caller has the correct information they will be
able to talk their way into that person’s accounts and
easily receive a copy of their phone bills.
Anyone who has access to an Internet connection can
easily go through a company or on their own obtain phone
records for any landline or cell phone. This has been a
hot topic of discussion with most news and television programs,
particularly over the past few years. Because of how the
problem has been escalating lately, law enforcement agencies
have been doing what they can to fight against it. Even
in situations where it may seem reasonable, such as if a person
thought their spouse was cheated, it is not fair to invade
someone’s privacy like that.
Stalkers can easily keep track of people and find out
what they are doing by staying updated on these records.
These days when someone goes to buy phone records they will
need to be much more careful. The most major law passed
was the Consumer Telephone Records Protection Act of
2006. This law made it so the only time to obtain cell
phone records is if you are the legal owner of that phone.
This is how most companies obtain their information,
is by calling up the phone company and pretending to be the
person in question. No matter what laws are passed there
will still always be people who are willing to risk it to get
the information they want. This should not stop people
from feeling free to use their own phones, but it is smart to
be careful. Hopefully in the near future these
unscrupulous companies who are just trying to make a quick buck
will be taken down.
